My Approach

I believe that people have the capacity to grow, learning new ways for improving their health across all areas of life, including biologiical, psychological, social, and spiritual. Growth is facilitated by setting and working toward goals, assessing and building on strengths in these areas. I believe it is important to work together as partners for positive change with clients. My experience and training make me both compassionate and equipped at helping individuals, couples, and families understand problems, develop goals and viable treatment plans for achieving their goals.

I identify myself as a Professional Christian Counselor, which means that I integrate the best theory and proven methods of the mental health professions, such as the rehabilitation model and cognitive-behavioral therapy with Biblical truths and spiritual practices to produce “Christ-like” character, behavior, and contentment in the lives of the people I serve. That being said, I have worked with people from many belief systems, and those identifying themselves as having no belief in God. Specifically, I believe that all individuals have strengths that we can build on, which can be used to develop skills and systems to help them manage their current clinical challenges. I believe that behavior is shaped in relationship to others as well as in the way that we perceive the things that happen in to us in life. I believe that usually a variety of approaches including biological (medical), psychological (cognitive-behavioral), social (relational, communication) and Biblically-based therapies (spiritual disciplines) might be appropriate tools for helping individuals achieve more balance and satisfaction in life.

The counseling process involves comprehensively assessing your needs, desires, and current levels of functioning across biological, psychological, social and spiritual areas. Next we will develop a treatment plan addressing these four areas. I will take your needs very seriously and do all that I can to genuinely support you, and commit to helping you attain your treatment goals. It is possible that you may at times experience the change process to be difficult and challenging. Whether it be the experience of learning new ways of coping with chronic challenges or an emotional trauma or simply a process of learning new ways to handle daily stresses and challenges, it is possible that the counseling experience may generate occasional discomfort. I will work to actively support you through this process and to direct you to other sources or support and assistance when indicated or requested. If I am not able to effectively meet your needs I will be clear with you regarding these limitations and ensure an appropriate referral.

In addition to Blue Cross Blue Shield and the NC State Health Insurance Plan, I am now able to accept Aetna, FEI Behavioral Health, Coventry Health Care National Network & First Health Network, Health Net Federal Services [Tricare, MHN], & ComPsych, NC Medicaid insurance , and others too.
